Cette conférence de David Harvey à l’Université de Paris Ouest Nanterre, le 21 novembre 2011, a été pour une bonne partie initiée et co-organisée par notre collègue et ami Matthieu Giroud. Grâce à lui, Nanterre avait eu la chance d’accueillir David Harvey, au moment où Matthieu travaillait à la traduction de l’ouvrage, Paris, capitale de la modernité (Les Prairies ordinaires, 2012). La venue de David Harvey avait été l’occasion d’une belle conférence, que nous avions filmée, conférence dont Matthieu avait assuré l’introduction.
This conference by David Harvey at the University Paris Ouest Nanterre, on November the 21st, 2011, was for a good part initiated and co-organized by our friend and colleague Matthieu Giroud. Thanks to him, Nanterre was fortunate to welcome David Harvey, when Matthieu was working on the translation of the book, Paris, Capital of Modernity (2005). The coming of David Harvey was the occasion of a conference that we filmed and which Matthieu introduced.
Matthieu tenait beaucoup - comme nous - à ce que nous diffusions cette conférence, très stimulante. Nous y avions travaillé avec lui : en raison de problèmes techniques sur l’enregistrement et par manque de temps, nous n’avions pas pu finaliser ce projet.
Matthieu wanted – as we did – that we put this stimulating conference on-line. We worked with him but because of technical problems and of a lack of time, we were not able to finalize this project.
La diffusion aujourd’hui de cet enregistrement vidéo prend un autre sens : un hommage au travail scientifique de Matthieu Giroud et, au-delà, au rôle important de Matthieu dans la réalisation de beaux projets collectifs. Son travail et son souvenir nous accompagneront longtemps.
This video takes another meaning today: a tribute to the scientific work of Matthieu Giroud and, beyond, to the important role that Matthieu played in the launching and the realization of beautiful collective projects. His work and his memory will be with us for long.
